November 3rd, 2023: Gold Coast Railroad Museum
All aboard! Join the Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation at Florida’s Gold Coast Railroad Museum in Miami as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of “Dewey Defeats Truman” and re-enact the world-famous image of Harry S. Truman on the rear platform of Presidential Railcar Ferdinand Magellan, triumphantly holding aloft the Nov. 3, 1948 Chicago Daily Tribune with its famously erroneous headline.
Clifton Truman Daniel, grandson of President Truman, will be our guest of honor and dress in full regalia to recreate one of the most iconic images and moments in presidential history. The event will also welcome acclaimed author, historian, and Lynn University professor Dr. Robert Watson, an expert on Truman, who will speak about the impact of his 1948 campaign and the importance of his “whistle-stop” tour aboard the Ferdinand Magellan.

November 4th, 2023: Truman Little White House
Nov 4, from noon-2:00pm, the public is invited to a free event on the grounds of the Harry S. Truman Little White House, 111 Front St., Key West, where light refreshments and desserts will be served, photo op’s with “Ferdinand Magellan” set prop can be enjoyed, and objects from the iconic railcar in the Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation collection can be viewed. In Harry S. Truman tradition and spirit, guests at both events are encouraged to wear the 33rd president’s preferred Key West attire of Hawaiian shirts.
